The addition of Bronze to PTFE gives better dimensional stability and lowers creep, cold flow and wear. It increases hardness and compressive strength whilst also increasing thermal and electrical conductivity.

BRONZE FILLED PTFE PROPERTIES
Bronze Filled PTFE is reinforced with bronze powder with the percentage varying between 40% and 60%, resulting in a very hard wearing material. It has weaker chemical resistance than other grades of PTFE and isn''''t suitable for electrical applications.

PTFE is used as a non-stick coating for Belgian Waffles pans and other cookware. It is nonreactive, partly because of the strength of carbon–fluorine bonds, and so it is often used in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive chemicals. Where used as a lubricant, PTFE reduces friction, wear, and energy consumption of machinery. It is commonly used as a graft material in surgical interventions. Also, it is frequently employed as coating on catheters; this interferes with the ability of bacteria and other infectious agents to adhere to catheters and cause hospital-acquired infections.

GLASS FILLED PTFEPTFE WITH IMPROVED COMPRESSION AND WEAR PROPERTIESGlass fibre is the most commonly used filler in PTFE.
Glass fibre is used as a PTFE filler as it offers much improved compression and wear properties.  The material may also be inert gas sintered to further improve creep properties and reduce porosity and gas permeability (there would be a consequent loss of tensile properties).

GLASS FILLED PTFE PROPERTIESGlass Filled PTFE is reinforced with glass fibres with the percentage varying between 5% and 40% depending on the needs of the application. As the filler percentage increases so does the properties the filler offers (increased compressive strength, lower deformation under load) but conversely the coefficient of friction properties of the material increases over that of virgin PTFE.

CARBON FILLED PTFE EXCELLENT MECHANICAL AND WEAR PROPERTIESCarbon Filled PTFE was developed to provide a PTFE based material with improved mechanical strength.PTFE on its own has excellent frictional properties, elasticity and wear resistance but relatively poor mechanical strength and tends to fail in high PV applications.??CARBON FILLED PTFE PROPERTIESCarbon in itself is a brittle material with poor wear properties and mechanical strength. However with the two combined in Carbon Filled PTFE formulations, the resultant material has excellent mechanical and wear properties, retains the excellent frictional properties and is an excellent choice for seals and rings in dynamic and high pressure applications.Carbon filled PTFE also provides good thermal conductivity, low permeability and is also electrically conductive making it a good choice for anti-static applications??POSSIBLE VARIATIONSThe most common carbon filled PTFE composition is 75% Virgin PTFE with 25% Carbon powder by weight. When a filler ratio or type is unspecified, it is fair to assume this is the material. However it doesn t tell the whole story. The type and percentage of carbon added to PTFE is a variable and is critical to material performance. It can be as little as 0.2% and as much as 40%.??Different percentages of carbon will display different material properties and performance.Something that??is often overlooked is that different types of carbon powder can also affect the material integrity and performance. To achieve the optimum physical properties and performance from any filled PTFE it is essential that the properties and type of fillers used are understood. Not all 25% carbon filled PTFE materials are the same, in fact they can be extremely different.STRENGTHS???Good thermal and electrical conductivity???Good chemical resistance???Very economical???Improved wear resistance under loadWEAKNESSES???High percentage fillers mean low elongation???Conductivity can be a problem

General Properties:

PTFE mechanical properties are low compared to other plastics, but its properties remain at a useful level over a wide temperature range of -100°F to +400°F (-73°C to 204°C). Mechanical properties are often enhanced by adding fillers (see filled grades below). It has excellent thermal and electrical insulation properties and a low coefficient of friction. PTFE is very dense and con not be melt processed - it must be compressed and sintered to form useful shapes.

Filled Grades:

PTFE's mechanical properties can be enhanced by adding fillers such as glass fibers, carbon, graphite, molybdenum disulphide, and bronze. Generally, filled PTFE's maintain their excellent chemical and high temperature characteristics, while fillers improve mechanical strength, stability, and wear resistance. The properties of 25% glass-filled PTFE grade are shown below. There are literally dozens of different filled PTFE products and grades - too many to be listed here. Please contact EPM for more information about other filled PTFE products for your application.

PTFE (Poly–tetra-fluoro-ethylene) is a synthetic fluoropolymer ‘accidentally’ invented by Roy Plunkett that finds numerous applications. It is well known by the DuPont band name Teflon. PTFE is a material of remarkable properties; non-stick, friction-free, self-lubricating, non-wetting, non-flammable, non-brittle, non-toxic, resistant to atmospheric conditions, resistant to fungus growth and resistant to all chemicals (except molten alkali metals and fluorine at elevated temperatures and pressures). Its electrical properties are equally outstanding. All properties are maintained over a wide working temperature range of -200oC to +350oC.

Fiber-Glass too is a material of remarkable properties. Fabrics made from continuous filament yarn exhibit superior properties in terms of high tensile strength, low elongation, high temperature resistance, electric and sound insulation etc.we develop a matrix of the two materials - PTFE + Fiberglass i.e. PTFE coated Glass Cloth. Although not the first to develop we are now by far, the largest manufacturer. Various varieties are made on our towers which are the most sophisticated in the country. Should the end application demand colourful fabrics - we have them. Controlled manufacturing processes and rigid inspection procedures give the right quality of the material that is capable of resolving a wide range of problems. Conductive grades of fabrics are also our specialty where the static & charge needs to be handled carefully.

Requirements to cover Antennas at high altitudes have been successfully matched with PTFE coated fiber glass fabrics used as Radomes. Special grades have been developed which allows micro-waves to pass through. They protect the Antennas from snow, dust, rain, moisture, bird nest etc.

We offer a wider range of PTFE products than any other manufacturer, including PTFE coated Glass Fabric in sheets, rolls, tapes, discs, laminates, belts and threads.
